Tout Le Monde

During my travels in South America I began to feel really inspired with all the different shops in all the different countries. Brazilian jewelry, Peruvian wool, Argentian leather .... the list goes on. I started to recognize an unfortunate reality; we cannot buy these items in Victoria. I'm sure a few stores here and there offer samples of such items -Ten Thousand Villages for example - but no fashionable boutiques really offer a plethora of universally unique items. So I started to brainstorm and I started to sketch. My ideas turned into a floor plan of the boutique I would like to open one day - Tout Le Monde - literally meaning All the World. So when we were asked to make a porfolio about an imaginary business in my Art and Tech class, I was excited because I already had the ideas and now it was only a matter of translating those ideas into cohesive images in photoshop. Click on the link below to see the final product - it's worth 40% of my mark so I hope you, as well as my prof, likes it :) http://www.scribd.com/doc/51728087

The Mountview Arms - Kitsilano

The Tacky Bathroom

Hey :) So this is my apartment! It was advertised as a 2 bedroom but really they just boarded up the den to call it that. We took down the boards and put up a scarf, which I now use as my door. I blocked the den door with my bed because it leads to the kitchen and who wants to see dirty dishes immediately after waking up? It's gross .... especially after Martini Mondays.

Our teensy kitchen. To the left, opposite the fridge, is the door leading to my "bedroom"

random assignments

This is biography I wrote on designer Gareth Pugh. Pardon the wierd look of it, you can't copy and paste into blogs for some reason. I actually had to write script and I'm clearly no good at it.

GARETH PUGH

by Lisa Sadler

Since graduating from Central St. Martins in 2003, Gareth Pugh has demanded the fashion world’s attention by experimenting with intense form and volume while simultaneously creating avant-garde headpieces as theatrical additions to his garments. Pugh, now 29, captured the
interest of the fashion elite with his Fall 2006 debut at London Fashion Week followed by his ANDAM Fashion Award in 2008.

Pugh’s earlier collections included stiff, architectural shapes in a monochromatic palette that were considered to be “wearable sculptures”. During the past eight years however, his collections have steadily evolved to feature a more romantic mood with an heir of femininity. However this is not to say that his designs have strayed from his iconic hard edge, it’s just that there is now a fluidity and movement that wasn’t quite present before. So much so that Gareth chose to present his Fall 2009 and Spring 2011 collections as a film in replace of a runway show. “My clothes are about movement and how they work” he said. “It’s so nice to see them in this way than just to see them in stills. It makes what I communicate to everybody so much more concise and slick and [is displayed] how I want it to be seen”.

Gareth Pugh’s collections often contain natural fabrics such as furs and leathers to create an animalistic energy symbolic of aggression. His collections are self-described as “very beautiful, but with an underlying current of violence”. This can easily be seen in his constant desire to play with the struggle between light and dark. His designs are a captivating blend of edginess and sensuality.

Pugh has been featured in Vogue, Dazed and Confused, on Style.com and his designs can be found in Barneys and Bergdorf Goodman. Gareth’s most recent challenge was unveiled just last month. He was commissioned to showcase a mini-collection designed specifically for Pitti Uomo in Florence, Italy. He did so by producing another short film with Ruth Hogben, whom he collaborated with for his previous presentations. With Pitti at end, make sure to keep an eye on what Gareth will do next. There’s no telling what he’s capable of.

And this is one that I did for my costuming class. Hope it works! :)

Hi Maaaaam

Dear Maaam:

This blog is mainly for you. You wanna hear alllll about school, but I don't wanna talk alllllll about school. It's not 'cause I don't like talking to you, it's because I come home from class and I tell Montana about my day. Then before I go to bed I talk to Kevin and I tell him my day. Then, people at work ask how school is going, and blah blah blah. So believe it or not, I get bored talking about me. So this is a blog where you can check in and see my projects and get a glimpse of what my life is like here in Vancouver.

my classes

Design Awareness
Costuming for TV and Film
Art and Technology
Public Relations
Effective Communications

I am just about finished my first semester but I'll post some of my work later for you to see. I haven't quite figured out how to "blog".

1. Design Awareness was good. I just had my final exam and there were only 5 questions or so that I was unsure of. A good sign right? I'll keep you posted when I find out my marks.

2. MY FAVORITE CLASS! The teacher kinda drives me nuts because she repeats herself a billion times. If I have to hear another stupid story about her granddaughter's Irish Dancing I am gonna punch her out. Thankfully I only have one class left. Anyways, I think I'd like to look into a career in costuming when I'm finished this program. Unless another class in my next 3 semester grab my attention like this one did.

3. Stupid and I hate it.

4. PR is okay. It's good to understand all the aspects, but I don't want to do PR so I find it somewhat usless.

5. It's about dissesting fashion shows and writing cohesive runway reviews. It's also about stylized writing for different audiences and other fun stuff. My final was last week. I had to write 2 in-class essays of 500-700 words. I'll keep you posted.

That's it for now. Kay bye. xoxo
